Addie (Chambers) Dumas

Mrs. Addie Chambers Dumas, 77 of Mount Gilead, NC died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.  Funeral Services will be held 2pm Sunday, December 23, 2012 at McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church, 2829 NC HWY 109 S., Mount Gilead, NC 27306. Reverend David Wooley, Eulogist, Interment will follow in McAuley Memorial Gardens in Mount Gilead, NC, Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Addie was a graduate of Peabody High School and relocated to Brooklyn, New York.    She was a member of McAuley Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church where she was on several boards.  She was the 1999  NAACP Mother of the year.  Addie was married to Robert Marcus Dumas on December 12, 1958 and to this union four sons were born.  Robert preceded her in death July 6, 2012.

She was the daughter of the late Fred and Maddie Miller Chambers and preceded in death by siblings, Frank Chambers, Larry Gene Chambers and Frances Ewing.

Those left to cherish and to honor her memory are her sons, Thaddeus Chambers (Teri) of Bronx, NY, Marcus Dumas (Linda) of Brooklyn, NY, Patrick Dumas and Frederick Dumas, both of the home; grandchildren, Tamekia, TJ, Rakesha, Marcus, Jr., and Frederick; brothers-in-law, Roger Ewing, of Mt. Gilead, NC, William Dumas (Ella) of High Point, NC, Johnnie Ray Dumas (Sandra) of Brooklyn, NY;  sisters-in-law, Ella Dumas and Jerelene Goode (Floyd), all of Brooklyn, NY, Beatrice Chambers of Irvington, NJ, Eddie Mae Scarborough (Bracy) and Bessie Mae Chambers, both of Mt. Gilead, NC, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
