MRS. ALBERTA DUMAS MCAULEY, 90 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Leah Richter Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 S. School St., Mount Gilead, NC. Interment will follow in the Ingram Chapel Church Cemetery in Mount Gilead, NC.
A public viewing will be held 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Mount Gilead, NC, whom is serving the McAuley, Dumas and extended Family.
Alberta was born on Thursday, November 24, 1927, in Montgomery County, NC, to the late Elijah Sr., and Jennie Chambers Dumas.
She attended the public schools of Montgomery County and graduated from Peabody Academy, Troy, NC. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Ingram Chapel AME Zion Church, where she was prided herself in raising the most money for Family and Friends Day and Rainbow Teas. She later joined McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church in 2009, where she continued her fund raising, winning Family and Friends Day two years in a row, 2017 and 2018. She was a great cook, with her apple pies and cabbage was a fan favorite. You couldn't come to her house without receiving a hearty meal. She loved her family and church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlie James(CJ) McAuley; two sons, Lewis and Ambrose; sisters, Mildred Robinson, Jennie Bell Dumas and Sallie Mae Scarboro; brothers, Jethro, Lester and Elijah, Jr., Grandchildren, Juane' Johnson, Jerrod Martin.
Her legacy will remain in the hearts of her children, Cephus McAuley of Goldsboro, NC, Eldon McAuley of NJ, Earl McAuley of NJ, Gwendolyn Smalls (Albert) of Moncks Corner, SC, Gloria Berry (Daryl) of Brown Summit, NC, Angela Martin (Billy) of Winston Salem, NC, Alvin Kent McAuley (Toni) and Tim McAuley (Lesley), all of Mt. Gilead, NC; two brothers, Frank Dumas of Paulsboro, NJ and Asia Dumas (Shirley) of Mt. Gilead, NC; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends, Emma Miller and Naomi Bogan.
