Atria Ednylane (Stout) Martin

MRS. ATRIA EDNYLANE STOUT MARTIN, 100, of  the (Wadeville Community) of MOUNT GILEAD, NC, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Autumn Care Nursing Facility in Biscoe, NC.

Funeral Service will be held  1:00 pm, Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Wadeville AME Zion Church, 1433 Bruton Carpenter Road, Mount Gilead, NC. 27306.

Interment to follow in the Bruton Cemetery, Wadeville Community, Mount Gilead, NC.

A public viewing will be 12:00pm to 7pm Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Mrs. Martin, a daughter of the late Vodrie Charlie and Emma Catherine Stout, was born Thursday, November 18, 1915, in Montgomery County, NC.  She passed away peacefully, Sunday October 23, 2016, in The Autumn Care Nursing Facility in Biscoe, NC.

Atria attended the public schools of Montgomery County and graduated high school at Peabody Academy in Troy, NC.  She continued her education to become a nurse at The Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC.

She was a stay at home mom until all of her children went to school.  Then she became employed by Montgomery Memorial Hospital until she retired from public work.

She attended Wadeville AME Zion Church until her health declined.

Atria was married to Wade Martin and to this union 7 children were born.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Vodrie Lee Stout, Jr., a son, Joe Grasty, and two grandsons, Rodney Hill and Willie Pemberton, Jr.

Those left to cherish loving memories to two sons, Jerry Martin (Kim) of Manchester, NH, and Reid Martin of Mt. Gilead, NC; four daughters, Grace Myatt (Richard) of Mattapan, Mass., Emma Hill(Harvey), of Mt. Gilead, NC, Patsy Harrell of Milton, MA., and Norma Nwoko of Washington, DC; one sister, Vaughn Cook of Biscoe, NC; 10 grandchildren, 15 great -grandchildren, 6 great - great - grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
