Betty Rose (Gatewood) Leak

MRS. BETTY ROSE GATEWOOD LEAK, 74 of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Atrium Health / Union in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 318 N. Camden Rd., Marshville, NC.  Interment will follow the Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC.

A devoted wife, loving mother, caring and doting grandmother, Mrs. Betty Rose Gatewood Leak, was born in Union County, Monroe, NC on Friday, December 22, 1944.  A daughter of the late Edgar and Carnelia S. Gatewoodm was affectionately known as "Ms. Betty",  She exchanged time for eternity on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

She was a graduate of Winchester High School in Monroe, NC, where she was recognized as a talented basketball player for the Winchester High School Girls team.  She enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching boxing matches and was an avid New York Yankees Baseball fan,

She played softball at the position of short stop from the  age of nine as well in her young adult years.  In adition to sports and healthy competition., Betty enjoyed quiet time and most of all, she enjoyed spending  moments with those  she loved most.

She was a sharp woman with a gifting in numerical work.  she worked as a payroll accountant for Paris Maintenance in Elmont, Long Island as a lead teller at Fidelity Bank in Manhattan, NY, for many years.

Betty was a member of Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marshville, NC, where she proclaimed her love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and worshipped faithfully until she heeded the Father's gentle call.  She served her family tirelessly with tender love and beaming pride.
