Betty Jean (Funderburk) Rorie

MRS. BETTYJEAN FUNDERBURK RORIE, 73 of MONROE, NC passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at CHS Hospice in Monroe, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 2pm Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 503 Maurice St., Monroe, NC 28112.  Bishop Osco E. Gardin, Jr, Pastor, Eulogist.  Mrs. Rorie remains will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.

A public viewing will be held 12pm to 7pm Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of  Monroe, NC.

Born Saturday, September 19, 1942 in Lancaster County, SC a daughter of the late Will Deese and Ollie Mae Funderburk Gray.  At an early age she accepted Christ and later became a faithful member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC where she served as a Deaconess and sincerely enjoyed praise and worship through singing for the Fellowship Choir now known as Voices of Praise.

Betty always had a spirit to serve whether at Wingate University, Union Regional Hospital now (CHS Union), providing in home care or just stepping in to lend a helping hand or a joke just to put a smile on others faces.  Her loving personality lead to her taking in strangers, additional grandchildren and whoever else wanted to call her "Grandma Betty".  She was preceded in death by her parents and one son; Gary Funderburk.

She leaves to cherish her life memories to her husband; Wade O. Rorie, two daughters; Janice Stevens (Leroy) and Tammy Rorie both of Monroe, NC, five sons; Mitchell Funderburk (Rose) of Greensboro, NC, Vernie Funderburk, Jeffery Funderburk and Randy Rorie all of Monroe, NC and Scottie Rorie of Charlotte, NC, one brother; Louis Funderburk of Wingate, NC.  Thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
