MR. BILLY SUNDAY BOWDEN, 87 of MT. GILEAD, NC, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his home.
Military Honors and Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Billy Bowden's Store, 4469 Hwy 73 W. MT. Gilead, NC.
Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC is serving the Bowden and extended families.
Billy Sunday Bowden was born on Sunday, October 4, 1936, to the late Lawrence and Dora Mae Colston Bowden of Mt. Gilead, NC. He exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at his home.
Billy received his education in the Montgomery County School System and graduated from Peabody High School, Troy, NC.
Billy joined the United states Navy Tour 6th Naval District in 1955 and served until 1959.
Billy joined the North Carolinas Army National Guard Det1 Company C 230th Signal Battalion Asheboro, NC in 1975 and retired as Sergeant in 1996.
Billy was the owner and operator of Billy's Store , selling miscellaneous items, food and gasoline. Billys Store later became a gameroon ,where he enjoyed the games of Pool, Pac-Man, Astro Fighter Games and Foosball. One of his favorite pass times was sitting at Food King, meeting and greeting and chatting with customers.
Billy received the highest honor within the Bowden Community as honorary Mayor.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; Lawrence Bowden and Dora Colston Bowden, and a sister, Maxine Bowden McCoy; in-laws, Annie Bowden, Alton McCoy and James "Jim" Leake.
Billy leaves to cherish his three siblings, Bobby L. Bowden, Sr., Doris Bowden Cole (Rev. Lonnie) and Joanne Bowden Leake.
Undoubtedlly, Billy's unique style is unparelled and will be unforgettable by his nieces, nephews, cousins friends and military family for years to come
