Carrie Mae (Pemberton) Armstrong

July 3, 1930 — August 15, 2016

MRS. CARRIE MAE PEMBERTON ARMSTRONG 86, of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away, Monday, August 15, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral Services will be held 4:00pm Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Leah Richter Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 School St., Mount Gilead, NC 27306, with Pastor Robert Brown, eulogist.

Interment will follow in the Green Lake Congregational Church Cemetery, Pekin Community, Candor, NC.

A public viewing will be held 12:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, August 19, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Mount Gilead, NC.

Carrie Mae was born on Thursday, July 3, 1930, in Montgomery County, NC, to the late Edgar, Sr., and Gl ossie Mae Butler Pemberton.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Stephen's A.M.E Church, Mt. Gilead, NC,  and later joined Rock Fellowship Christian Church in Albemarle, NC.  In the church she was a Missionary, Class Leader, and a member of the choir.

She was a full time homemaker, mother, grandmother, great, grandmother, great-great grandmother, great-great-great grandmother.  She had been a cafeteria worker until becoming disabled.  She continued to work in the home and loved to help others.

Carrie Mae was married to late Bill Armstrong and to this union seven children were born.

Carrie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill Armstrong, brothers, Edgar, Jr., Roosevelt, Alexander, John Robert and a sister, Yvonnie Hall.

Those left in the sunshine to hold very dear memories are her seven children; three daughters, Ophelia Baldwin (George) and Elizabeth H. Bostic, all of Mt. Gilead, NC and Annie Lois Dockery of Rockingham, NC; four sons, James E. Harris (Kimberly) of Rockingham, NC, Roger Armstrong (Cheryl) of Robbins, NC, Luther D. Armstrong and Jasper L. Armstrong, both of Mt. Gilead, NC; three sisters; Lizzie Johnson of Raleigh, NC, Clara Armstrong of Candor, NC,  and Mattie Mayhue (Leonard) of Jackson Springs, NC; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Bell Pemberton of Mt. Gilead, NC, Mozella Alston of Albemarle, NC, and Doreen Armstrong of Candor, NC, 45 grandchildren, 107 great - grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, 6 great-great-great grandchildren; special grands, Lyric Faith and Nadia Brown; special granddaughter she raised, Diane Harris; wonderful sisters and brothers in Christ, Geronia Dockery, Jessie Phillips, Myrtle Haywood, Callie and Johnnie Steele, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
