Carrie Mae (Rakestraw) Winchester

MRS. CARRIE MAE RAKESTRAW WINCHESTER, 99 of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at her home.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Hillcrest Cemtery, 1002 Adams St., Monroe, NC

(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service are required to wear amaske or facial covering.)

Mrs. Carrie Mae Winchester , was born in Georgia on  Thursday, June 30, 1921 to the late Joe and Ethel Rakestraw.  At a very early age, her family moved to Monroe, NC. Carrie Mae attended Winchester High School and later married her husband, James (Jim) Winchester (deceased). Carrie and Jim loved attending Friendship Baptist Church together each Sunday visiting relatives after church..

Most of Carrie's life was spent on English Street in the part of Monroe called, New Town.  Her caring personality resonated with everyone she met and became  "adopted mother " by many.  Whether she was called " Mother Winchester" or Aunt Carrie , she touched the hearts of all she met.  She loved to cook for anybody that walked through her front door.  Her loving smile and laugh will be missed but Heaven will be celebrating her arrival..

She was preceded in death by her husband James Winchester; a son, James Edward Winchester; a granddaughter Jackie Ashcraft.

Carrie leaves to cherish her son, Benjamin F. Winchester (Jennifer); two brothers, Isiah Rakestraw of Darlington, SC and George Robert Rakestraw of Morganton, NC. four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
