Celestine Amelia Haywood

Miss Celestine Haywood, 86 of Troy, NC,  died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Sandy Ridge Assistant Living in Candor, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 3pm Sunday, December 2, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, S. Main St. Troy, NC 27371.  Reverend Walters S. Coleman, Eulogist, Interment will follow in the Freeman Hill Cemetery, Troy, NC.   Public viewing will be held 11am to 7pm saturday, December 1, 2012 at  Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Celestine was born  July 20, 1926 in Montgomery County to the late Albert S. Haywood, Sr., and Lena Gillespie Haywood.  She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ (lifetime) and a graduate of Peabody Academy.  After graduation, she attended and graduated from Winston-Salem Teachers College, Winston-Salem, NC (now Winston-Salem State) with a BS in Education.  She taught school briefly and later moved to New York City, where she worked at B-Altman Department Store as an accountant until retirement.  She attended Convent Avenue Baptist Church in Convent, NY.

While at the Congregational Church, she was in the Missionary Circle, a Sunday School Teacher, Praise and Worship Team and the Dining Room Assistant. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and one sister.

She leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to her devoted two brothers, Albert Haywood, Jr., and Dudley B.  Haywood (Sandra), all of Troy, NC; sister-in-law, Calleen Haywood of Troy, special niece (daughter), Felicia Haywood of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
