CPO USN (Ret.) RICHARD LEE DAVIS, JR. 83 of CALIFORNIA, MD formerly of Union County, NC passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD.
Graveside Services and Military Honors will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 9904 Andrew Jackson Rd., Waxhaw, NC.
A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC, which is serving the Davis, Washington, Hood and extended families.
Chief Petty Officer United States Navy (Retired) Richard Lee Davis, Jr; a son of the late Richard Lee Davis, Sr., and Mary Washington Davis, was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1937, in Lancaster County, South Carolina. He exchanged time for eternity on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, in the Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland.
Richard accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Waxhaw, NC and later joined Life Community Church of God in California, Maryland, where he served as an Usher. He also was a graduate of Barr Street High School.
Richard served his country by joining the United States Navy where he served for 25 years with an honorable discharge. He retired from the Navy and later became employed by the Department of Defense at Air Force Base in Washington, DC. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (E7).
His hobbies included deep sea fishing, hunting and he was a member of the Beagle Hunting Club.
He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to his wife of 24 years, Lula Bell Davis of the home; three daughters, Glenda Ivey of Rock Hill, SC; Sheila Little and Leslie Hall, both of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Greg Davis of Maryland and J.C. Fletcher of Lancaster, SC; one sister, Gladys Blair of Lancaster, SC, one brother, Walter Davis of Waxhaw, NC; one aunt, Wilma Rhoney of Lancaster, SC; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Davis of Waxhaw, NC, Bobbie Young and Mathilda Houston of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law, Arthur Davis of Fort Mill, SC; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Richard was a father figure to many, especially Jerry Fletcher.
