Daniel Lee Miller, Sr.

Deacon Daniel Lee Miller, Sr., 76 of Fayetteville, NC, formerly of Mt. Gilead, NC, passed away, Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville, NC, after a brief illness.

Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 3807 NC HWY 109 S., Mt. Gilead, NC 27306 of which he was a member with the Reverend Howard Rogers, pastor, eulogist.  Burial will be in the Thomasville Baptist Church Cemetery,  Mt. Gilead, NC,  with full military honors.

Deacon Miller, a son of the late Jim and Callie Lilly Miller, was born June 8, 1936, in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  He attended the public schools of Montgomery County and Montgomery Community College, Troy.  He was a United States Air Force veteran and retired with 20 years of service and the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was a retiree from the North Carolina Department of Correction in Troy-Southern Correctional with 20 years of service as a Correctional Officer.

Deacon Miller was a devoted and faithful member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer.  His wife of 53 years, Marie Antoinette Johnson Miller, preceded him in death, June 13, 2011 and also his siblings, Beatrice Miller, Minnie Ewing, Frank Miller, Maness Miller, Margaret Ingram and Sadie Mitchell. A step-daughter, Diana Muhammad also preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish and to honor his memory are his devoted children;  one son, Daniel Lee Miller, Jr., of Fayetteville, NC; five daughters; Betty Miller-Hill (James) of Fayetteville, NC, Shelia Miller-Wilson (Dennis) of Anchorage, Alaska, Tangela Miller-Young (Gary) of Mt Gilead, NC, Pamela Miller-Chambers (Clarence)  of High Point, NC and Emily Elaine Miller of Grovertown, GA; one sister, Emma Jean Knight of Mt. Gilead, NC two sisters-in-law, Bertha Mae Miller of Newport News, VA and Augusta Tuck of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.

Public viewing will be 11:00 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Harris Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Mt. Gilead, NC and  Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of all arrangements.
