Dora Lee (Gaines) Harris

MRS. DORA LEE GAINES HARRIS, 76 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Novant Health / Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the West Montgomery High School Auditorium, 147 Warrior Dr., Mount Gilead, NC. Visitation will be held 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Auditorium prior to the service.   Entombment will follow in the Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Albemarle, NC.

Public viewings will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm   Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Monroe, NC and  12:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Gilead, NC.

Born Thursday, November 27, 1941 in Anson Co., NC, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Maggie Haywood Gaines. She attended Central High School in Asheboro, NC and she was a member of McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church of Mount Gilead, NC. Mrs. Harris was a Secretary, Lady Attendant and Life Insurance Agent for Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Mount Gilead, NC and Monroe, NC.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Odessa Gaines, brother; Bishop Elsie Gaines, aunt and uncle who raised her after the death of her parents, Ethel and James Patterson, Sr., nephews; Larry and Roger Gaines, Andre Harris and brother-in-law; Winfred Harris.

She is survived by her husband; Hubert Harris, Sr., Owner of Harris Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead, NC and Monroe, NC of the home, three daughters; Beverly A. Harris of the home, Maudestine D. Chambers (Laverne) and Kimberly L. Harris both of Monroe, NC, two sons; Hubert Leroy Harris, Jr., (Lela) of Mount Gilead, NC and John F. Harris (Linda) of Monroe, NC, one sister; Clara Miller and one brother; Louis C. Gaines (Rev. Patricia) both of Asheboro, NC, three grandchildren; Damarius L. Harris of Mount Gilead, NC, LaDarius L. Harris and Kenisha Hinson both of Greensboro, NC, two great-grandchildren; Charlee S. Hinson-Fee and Kameron Hinson-Fee both of Greensboro, NC, honorary brother and sister, James Patterson,Jr. of West Virginia and Minister Diana Patterson Graves of Greensboro, NC, God daughter; Moneke Gaines of Asheboro, NC, three sisters-in-law; Peggie Smith of Greensboro, NC, Shirley Townsend and Ernestine W. Gaines both of High Point, NC, In Laws; Dock and Dora Diggs of Monroe, NC, Stella Louise Hinson of Mt. Gilead, NC,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers  and other relatives and dear friends.
