Doris Lee (Huntley) Stokes

MRS. DORIS LEE HUNTLEY STOKES, 76 of MONROE, NC, died Monday, March 7, 2016 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 501 P.E. Bazemore Dr., Monroe, NC.

Visitation will be held 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the Church, prior to the service. Interment will be held in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC. Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC,  is in charge.

Born  on Friday, February 2, 1940,  in Union County, NC, she was  a daughter of the late  Reverend Clarence M. and Cora Covington Huntley.  Doris was a 1958 graduate of Winchester Avenue School in Monroe, NC and on October 18, 1959,  she married her sweetheart, Mr. Archie L. Stokes. She was very skillful with her hands and worked for Allen Overall Company, Monroe, NC,  for several years. She later retired from the textile industry and devoted her time to homemaking and landscaping.

Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior when she was a child. She joined Chambers Grove Baptist Church, Marshville, NC,  and was baptized in an outdoor pool.  Later, she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe, NC,  where she was an active member of the Jubilettes Young Adult Chor and the Adult Sunday School Class.

Doris leaves to cherish very fond memories, her husband of 56 years, Mr. Archie L. Stokes; two step- daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Hailey (Cecil) and Mrs. Donnie Hamilton (Rae); four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Autry (James), Ms. Elizabeth Doster, Ms. Mary J. Leaks, and Mrs. Joyce A. Hammond (Edward),  all of Monroe, NC, two brothers,  Minister Cleveland Huntley (Barbara) of Pineville, NC and Mr. Floyd H. Huntley (Linda) of Monroe, NC; one brother-in-law,  Mr. Larry Stokes (Kathy) of Monroe, NC;  two aunts,  Mrs. Vera Staton of Monroe, NC  and Mrs. Katie Covinton of Yorktown, VA;  one uncle,  Mr. Archie Huntley of Charlotte, NC,  and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
