MR. DOUGLAS HAL GAINES  72,  of MT. GILEAD, NC passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the First Health / Moore Regional Hospital  Pinehurst, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Leah Richter Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 S. School St., MT. Gilead, NC.  Interment will follow the service in the Snow Hill Church Cemetery in MT. Gilead, NC

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, July 5, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of Mt. Gilead  NC, which is serving the Gaines, Strong, and extended families .

I expect to pass through this world but once.  Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now.  Let me not deter it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this wau again.

Mr. Douglas Hal Gaines , departed this earthly walk of life on Wednesday, June June 26, 2019, at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, North Carolina. Douglas, know to some as "Goldfinger" and " Hal" to others, was born on Sunday, June 30, 1946 in Richmond County, NC and was the son of the late Edward Gaines and Addie Dumas Gaines of Mt.Gilead, NC.

Doug spent the majority of his life in New York and was a painter by trade.  Upon relocating to Mount Gilead, he was employed by Springs Industry in Biscoe, NC and McRae Shoe Industry in Mt. Gilead, NC.

Doug was a very friendly individual and a sharp dresser as well as a lover of shoes and hats.  Had had a passion for landscaping and  tinkering on cars and lawn mowers.  He spent many  days watching his  favirite TV evangelist and was an  avid  bible scholar.

In addition to his parents, Douglas is preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Jack, Eddie, Bobby, Bonnie and James, with home he shared a special bond.

Left to cherish loving memories are his wife of 32 years, Brenda J. Gaines of the home; one son, Dorian Gaines of Jersey City, New Jersey;  three step sons, Alton Strong of Greensboro, NC. Joey Strong (Iesha) of Durham, NC and Kevin String (Ayesha) of Mt. Gilead, NC; eight grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, special niece, Gail Cromwell of Durham, NC and cousin, Herbert Gaines of Mr. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
