MR. DOUGLAS ALLEN KNOX, 72 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, in Albemarle, NÇ.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Wadeville A.M.E. Zion Church, Wadeville, NC, with the Reverend Martha Greene, pastor, eulogist. Burial will be in the Bruton Cemetery.
Doug was a Rowan County native, born April 28, 1942, and was a son of the late Rosa Knox Baker. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters.
He was retired and a handy man around the community, and will be sorely missed.
Doug leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to, his partner of 36 years, Brenda McLeod Lilly of the home; one daughter, Carla Gramling (Michael) of Norwood, NC; three sons; Stephen Lilly of Greensboro, NC, Julius Lilly of Rockingham, NC and Julian Lilly, of the home; 10 grandchildren; Marquan, Eric, Jevonde, Morgan, Jada, Davon, Niki, Amade, Nayla, Jayden; 3 great-grandchildren; Londyn, EJ, and Bentley; special devoted nephews; Gerald, Greg, Andre, Ricky, Keith, Jahun, Shaun, Lamar, Corey and Brian; nieces, Cynthia, Debra, Africka and Charlene; special great-nephews, Colby and Courtney; 3 brothers-in-law, Billy, George and Chris; 4 sisters-in-law, Carole, Clara, Barbara and Elaine; special best friend, Jerry Martin; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the Wadeville Community.
Sometimes beyond the sunset,
away from this world of strife.
Our loved one is resting sweetly
In a land that knows no right.
The garden gate stood open,
God knew he needed rest.
