Rev. Dr. Brookshire M. Harris, 84 of Candor, NC died Friday, December 14, 2012 at Autumn Care of Biscoe, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 11am Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 232 Haywood-Davis Road, Mount Gilead, NC 27306 , Reverend Howard Rogers, Eulogist, Interment with full military honors in the Church Cemetery.

A Montgomery County, NC native Dr. Harris was a World War II US Army Veteran. Then after he was called into the Ministry, he was awarded his Doctorate in Divinity at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC in 1955.  He was also an entrepreneur where he owned his own Automotive Dealership, General Store, Television Repair Shop, Photography Shop, Publisher of the local Newspaper along with his own Recording Studio in the 1960's Harris Records in Biscoe, NC where his first recording was the Gospel Group,  The Mighty Wonders of Wingate, NC, which featured Lead Vocalist Clifford Hailey, Father of R&B legends KC & JoJo. He was also the First African American License Airplane Pilot in Montgomery County, NC, where he owned his own Airplane.

Dr. Harris mentored many people and was an outspoken advocate during the Civil Rights Movement.  He also served our Lord in a great way being the Pastor of Ingram Chapel AME Zion Church, Mountain Grove AME Zion Church, Walls Chapel Baptist Church, Providence Baptist Church and Snow Hill Baptist Churches all of MT. Gilead, NC, Sidney Grove Baptist Church of Ellerbe, NC, Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Rockingham, NC  and until his demise Pastor of Davidson Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield, SC.  During his life in the Ministry,  Dr. Harris Conducted over 1,000 Funerals, Revivals and Weddings.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to his wife of 64 years, Nannie Octavis Dockery Harris of the home; two sons; Johnny Mack (Juanita) Harris of Biscoe, NC, Rev. Jackie (Minister Beatrice) Harris of Pinebluff, NC; daughter, Minister Roxanne (Rev. Kenneth) Johnson of Chesterfield, SC and their adopted daughter, Mary Scott of Rockingham, NC; 14 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Public viewing will be held 12pm to 8pm Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC
