MR. EARNEST JAMES "Tootsie" STREETER, 79, of CANDOR, NC, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 at East Montgomery High School Auditorium, 157 Eagle Lane, Biscoe, NC, with burial to follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Candor, NC. Family visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, January 6, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.
Earnest James Streeter, was born on Saturday, December 4, 1937, in Montgomery County, Candor, North Carolina, to the late Earnest James and Nezzie Lee Streeter. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Earnest received his education in Montgomery County where he graduated from Peabody High School in Troy, NC. He also attended Montgomery Community College completing coursed in Auto Mechanics. He often talked about moments when his instructor would allow him to teach the class.
As a child, his work ethic began with helping his parents raise a farm. Earnest started his employment as a school bus driver then moving on to work at Fox's Garage, where he developed his love for auto mechanics. He worked many years at Springs Mill Industry, Capel's, then retired at Alcoa Badin Works as a steel worker. He shared a business many years at East Side Garage with longtime friend and family member Tim Smith where they both were licensed mechanics. He served many years as a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Gospel Singers.
He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Streeter of the home; one daughter, Barbara Lynn Streeter of Candor, NC; three sons, Devlin Streeter of Raleigh, NC, Anthony Streeter of Candor, NC and Corey Streeter (Yvette) of Parkton, NC; two granddaughters, Gabby and Courtney Streeter of Parkton, NC; five sisters, Katie Goldsborough (Willard) and Tema Horne (Larry), all of Candor, NC, Ida Bea Goldsborough(late Harvey), Ellen Kennedy and Truemiller Winrow (late Gordon), all of New Jersey; four brothers, John Robert Streeter, Melvin Streeter (Beverly), Theodore Streeter (Hazel) and Larry Streeter (Alberta), all of Candor, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
