Elnora Stanback

MISS ELNORA STANBACK, 70 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Autumn Care Nursing Facility in Biscoe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Mount Airy AME Zion Church, 322 Rosenwald School Rd., Mount Gilead, NC 27306.

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 12:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

El, as she was fondly called by family and friends, was born on Friday, June 14, 1946, in Richmond County, North Carolina, to the late Harry and Elmira LeGrand Stanback.  She attended the Rosenwald Elementary School for two years.

At an early age, El was diagnosed with epilepsy and had to be under constant medical care.  Although El suffered from many disabilities, our mother was her caregiver unconditionally until her health prevented her from doing so.  El later became a patient at Autumn Care of Biscoe, where she was given excellent care for 20 plus years.

El was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Vance Stanback, Pearl Stanback, Nelson Stanback and Charlie Stanback; four sisters, Mattie LeGrande, Rometta Pemberton, Joanne Taylor and Joyce Pemberton.

El leaves loving and fond memories to four sisters, Ann Patterson, Nannie LeGrand and Polly Steele (Henry), all of Mount Gilead, NC and Sue McLeod of Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Annette Stanback and Mary Stanback, both of Charlotte, NC, Virginia Stanback of High Point, NC and Darsena Stanback of Rockingham, NC; two brothers-in-law, Henry Steele of Mount Gilead, NC and John Taylor of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We would like to thank the Nurses, CNAs and the entire staff of Autumn Care for the excellent care that was given to our sister.  May God bless each one of you.
