MRS. EMILY SIMMS JOHNSON, 92 of Wesley Chapel, NC passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Monroe Rehabilitation Center in Monroe, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 2, 2021 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Monroe, NC. Entombment will follow in the Lakeland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.
(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a face mask or facial covering. Also please use the Hand Sanitizing when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)
A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC which is serving the Johnson, Simms and extended families.
Emily Simms Johnson was born on Thursday, September 6, 1929 to Hezekiah Johnson and Ethel Johnson in Rosetta St. Ann Jamaican West Indies. Emily came to America in 1967 and made America her home. She worked at Rdgewood Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Aide until she retired in 1994.
Emily loved knitting and garage sale hunting. She was always looking for a good deal. She was alwaus busy and in a rush. Driving above the speed limit always and never receiving a ticket. When stopped by the police , she would say, "officer really, I was driving that fast"? Somehow she managed to talk herself of a ticket and a warning. Emily was always health conscious and walked to achieve a fit body.
Above all, Emily loved the Lord and the things of the Lord. She attended Oneness Pentecostal Tabernacle and was baptized in Jesus's name and recieved the gift of the holy ghost spirit, where she was a member until she moved away. The members were her extended family and she vacationed and went on church gatherings with them
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Fabian Wray and Chad Wray; sisters, Dorcas Millin, Clover Millin, Lucille Campbell, Iszadora Johnson and Levy Johnson.
She leaves behind two children, Maria Simms and Fabian (Denniis) Wray, who is married to Helen Wray; grandchildren, Sheril Wray, Keisha Wray, Erica Thornton (Bryan), Matthew Wray (Liana); great-grandchildrenk Bryson Thorntonk Chad Joseph Wray, Layla Wray and Blake Thornton; sister, Raynez Thompson, Inez Whyte, Agnes Hall and 'Henrey Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews.
Emily was a fearless warrior. She was very direct and afraid of no one or anything. She loved children and cared for their educational advancement. She was very kind and the young people around her knew they could always get a few bucks out of her.
