Emma Jean (Miller) Knight

Mrs. Emma Jean Miller Knight, 70, of Mount Gilead, NC died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at her home.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, of which she was a member, with the Reverend Charles Matthews, great-nephew, eulogist.  Burial will be in the Thomasville Church Cemetery.

She was a Montgomery County North Carolina native, born February 11, 1942, to the late Jim and Callie Little Miller. She attended Peabody High School, Troy, was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where she was manager of the choir, president of the Kitchen Committee, Director of Highland Community Center, a member of the Highland Community Center Board of Directors, a member of the Council on Aging, a member of the Oak Ridge Chapter #547 Order of the Eastern Stars, Mt. Gilead, NC and Church Custodian.  She was very community and civic minded and will be sorely missed in the home and community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Knight, two daughters, Tina Carol Knight and Teresa Jean Knight Odom Jenkins, and most recently a brother, Daniel Lee Miller. Sr., January 3, 2013, and other siblings, Beatrice Miller, Maness Miller, Minnie Ewing, Frank Miller, Margaret Ingram and Sadie Mitchell.

Those left to cherish and to honor her memory are her children; Rory Knight of Fredricksburg, VA, Corliss Knight, Parnell Knight and Bryant Knight, all of the home; two grandchildren raised as her own, Latoya Knight of Mt. Gilead, NC and Ray Dwaine Knight of Clinton, NC; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other very close friends.

Public viewing will be 1:00 p.m. until 8 p.m.,  Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Harris Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Mt. Gilead, and one hour prior to the funeral.  The Eastern Stars will perform on Sunday night from 715 p.m. until 7:55 p.m..  Arrangements by Harris Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Mt. Gilead.
