Emma Ruth (Mcmurray) White

MRS. EMMA RUTH McMURRAY WHITE, 88 of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Mount Calvary AME Zion Church, 800 LaSalle St., Monroe, NC. 28110. Reverend Brenda Harris, Pastor, Mount Olive AME Zion Church of Monroe, NC, Eulogist.

Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Born Thursday, January 26, 1928 in Lancaster County, SC a daughter of the late Roy and Leola Robinson McMurray. She was a graduate of Winchester High School in Monroe, NC.  Emma was married to the late Oscar White on September 4, 1948 in Lancaster, SC, he preceded her in death on May 15, 2011. She became a pillar in the community and blazing a path forward for African American wemon.  For over 50 years, she owned a sucessful minority owned business.

Emma Ruth was a faithful servant of the Mount Olive AME Zion Church in Monroe, NC where she served on the Usher Board, President of the Deaconess Board, Missionary, Ministry of Kindness and a long time member of the Gospel Choir.

Emma Ruth was a loving sister to Cora Lee Massey (deceased 2015), Ray McMurray (deceased 2014) and Katrina Craig of Mineral Springs, NC.

Her spirit will continue to live through her three sons; James (Shirley) of Monroe, NC, Waymon (Barbara) of Waxhaw, NC, Eric (Tanya) of Mineral Springs, NC and stepdaughter; Helen Houser of Monroe, NC (deceased 2015) and a host of grandchildren, niece and nephew.
