Evelyn " Lean" Dumas

March 8, 1928 — September 15, 2013

MISS EVELYN " LEAN" DUMAS , 85 of Mt. Gilead, NC, died Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Randolph  Hospice House in Asheboro, NC.  Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, at House of Prayer, Mt. Gilead, NC, (formerly Ingram Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church) where Rev. C. J. House is pastor.  Rev. Cynthia Ransom, pastor of Mt. Grove/Ingram Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, NC, will be the eulogist.  Public viewing will be on Friday, September 20, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 7 p.m., at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Mt. Gilead, NC.

Evelyn was a daughter of the late Turner Dumas and Sylvian Martin Dumas Haywood,  born on March 8, 1928, in Mt. Gilead, NC., Montgomery County.

"Lean" as she was fondly called, was a 1948 graduate of Peabody High School in Troy, NC, a 30 year retired employee of Evans Rest Home of Mt. Gilead and a faithful member of Ingram Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, until her health began to fail.

"Lean" was a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  Those preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Ida Mae Ingram and two brothers; Willie Turner Dumas and Parnell Dumas.

Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are her loving and devoted daughter, Shirley Ann Dumas of the home;  one brother, Leroy (Louise) Dumas, of Hamden, CT; devoted cousins; Vera (Eric) Richardson, Asia (Shirley) Dumas, Robert (Katie ) Dumas, Minister Hampton and Betty Bennett, Keena and Nyriah Collins, all of Mt. Gilead, NC; two goddaughters; Natasha (Chris) Oliver of Kernersville, NC and Christy Harris of Durham, NC; 9 nieces, 8 nephews; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.  A special thanks to Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehab Center of Albemarle, NC and The Hospice House of Asheboro, NC, for the care " Lean" received as a patient.
