Geneva (Haywood) Hinson

MRS. GENEVA HAYWOOD HINSON, 92 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017, in Clapp's Nursing Center, Pleasant Garden, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 24, 2017,  at the Leah Richter Levin Memorial Auditorium 102 S. School Street,  Mount Gilead, NC.  Visitation will be held 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the church prior to the service.  Interment will follow in McAuley Memorial Gardens in Mount Gilead, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, June 23, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Geneva was born on May 2, 1925 in Montgomery County to the late Will Haywood and Willia Mae  Chambers Haywood Dumas.

She was a graduate of Peabody Academy in Troy, Maco Beauty School in Greensboro, a retired School Bus Driver and  Cafeteria Technician with the Montgomery County Schools, self employed Cosmetologist, a member of the Oakridge Chapter #547, Order of the Eastern Stars, a member of McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church, where she was on several auxiliaries, including Church Secretary and Gospel choir manager for over 30 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Linwood Hinson, Sr.; two sisters, Merline Lilly and  Marie Lilly; and brother Curt Dumas; nephew, Leslie K.Lilly, grandson, Tory Hinson and granddaughter, Tira LeGrande. She was a pillar in the community and her church.  She will be sorely missed.

Loved ones who remains to cherish her memories include, daughter, Vickie Hinson Whatley (Curtis) of Pleasant Garden, NC; sons, Linwood (Bob) Hinson, Jr., (Cynthia) of Archdale, NC and Phil  Hinson (Juanita) of Kernersville, NC; sisters, Stella Louise Hinson of Mt. Gilead, NC, Lena Crews of Greensboro, NC, Juanita Baldwin of Candor, NC and Sarah Leake of Mount Gilead, NC; brother, Robert Dumas (Katie) of Mount. Gilead, NC; grandchildren, Karyn Hinson, Antonio DeWayne Hinson,  Zakiya Whatley and Brittani Hinson; great-grandchildren, Shaquille Hinson and Tierra White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
