George Augusta Leake, Jr.

MR. GEORGE AUGUSTA LEAKE, JR., 69 of MT. Gilead, NC , passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

A Memorial Service in his honor will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, MT. Gilead, NC. Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC, is serving the Leake, Robinson and extended families.

George Augusta Leake, Jr, was born on Friday, June 23, 1950, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, to the late George Leake, Sr., and Cora Robinson Leake.  He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the First Health Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst, North Carolina, after a brief illness.

George attended Peabody High School, Troy, North Carolina.  After leaving school, he went to work at Bobby Williamson's Farm and a Hardware in Ellerbe, NC.

George traveled many states including New York, where he resided for a couple of years.

He attended Montgomery Technical Institute, now known as Montgomery Community College,Troy, NC, where he studied carpentry and he loved driving people around.

He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to his three sisters, Bessie Mae Medley, Vera Morman (Clarence) and Miriam Leake, all of Mt. Gilead, NC; five brothers, Glenn D. "Buck" Leake, Larry Leake, both of Mt. Gilead, NC, David F. Leake of Rockingham, NC, Harvey Leake of Albemarle, NC and James William Leake of Charlotte, NC; three aunts, Dorothy Bogan of Ellerbe, NC, Mae Catherine Thomas of Plainfield, NJ and Ruth Robinson of Mt. Gilead, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Sammy Shaw of Red Springs, NC, Nathaniel Legrande and Herbert Gaines, both of Mt. Gilead, NC.
