George Howard Martin

MR. GEORGE HOWARD MARTIN, 74 OF MT. GILEAD, NC, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in Atrium-Northeast Medical Center, Concord, NC.

Memorial Service will be held 12 noon Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel 2529 NC Hwy 109 S. Mt. Gilead, NC.

George Howard Martin, a son of the late William Lee "Bo" Martin and Catherine Jane Thomas Martin, was born on Thursday, April 8, 1948 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  He passed from this life on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

George retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 25 years of dedicated service.  After retiring, he spent his time working on cars and with his family an friends.

He gave his life to GOD as a young man and became a member of Oliver Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, NC.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Calloway Martin; one sister most recently, Kay Frances Martin Smith; five brothers; Jimmy, Curtis, Jerry, Rickey and William Lee "Po Boy" Martin; son-in-law, Lawrence Reed; a nephew, Jimmy Lee Martin and a niece, Pearlie Ann Martin.

George leaves to cherish his memories; his children; George Junior Martin (Alberta) and Tammy Martin Reed, all of Jacksonville, Fla., and LaShenna Watkins of Wadesboro, NC; four grandchildren; JahQuita Martin, Donavan Tillman, Jaydn Martin and Jay Martin; three great-grandchildren, Harmony Martin-Williams, Heavenleigh Johnson and Ya'nih Tillman; sisters and brothers, Vivian Martin, Vancie Martin and Brenda Graham, all of Mt. Gilead, NC, Mary Martin (Gary) of Rockingham, NC, Bernice Martin of Charlotte, NC, Robert Martin (Sherry) of Fayetteville, NC and Charles Martin of Mt. Gilead, NC; one aunt, Martha Watkins of Mt. Gilead, NC; brother-in-law, Albert "Jake" Smith of Mt. Gilead, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
