Gilbert Gainey

MR. GILBERT GAINEY, 70, of TROY, NC formerly of High Point, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Biscoe NC.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm  Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Covington Missionary Baptist Church  838 South Main Street, Troy, NC. Burial to follow in the Freeman Hill Cemetery, Troy, NC.  Public viewing will be Friday, December 28, 2018 at  Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of Mt. Gilead  NC, from 1pm until 7pm.

Gilbert, fondly known as "Goobi", to his family and friends,  was the sixth child born to the late Joseph Gainey and Sarah Harrington Gainey, on Thursday  July, 22, 1948, in Montgomery County, Troy, NC.  He exchanged mortality for immortality on Wednesday  December 19, 2018, in the Autumn Care of Biscoe, NC.

Gilbert was reared in Troy, NC, where he attended Peabody Academy,  Troy,  NC. He later married his best friend, Sarah Jean Shaw Gainey.  He lived his adult life in High Point  NC and for many years he was employed by Mickey ''s Body and Swain Metal as a welder until he retired in 2012.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, cooking and gardening.  He also was a jack of all trades   If it was broken,   he could fix it , no problem.  He also enjoy being in the company of his friends, Jerry Burton and William Poole, for whom he considered to be his adopted brothers.

He was predeceased by his son, Adrian Hamilton; daughter, Hazel Gainey; brothers, RD Gainey, John Daniel Gainey and Joe Dee Gainey.

He leaves to cherish his memories; daughters  Sonya Shaw Washington, Tina Gainey ; two step-daughters,  Carla Gainey and Angela Gainey, and former wife, Sarah J. Gainey, all of Oklahoma City, Okla; three sisters,  Louise Bennett and Carolyn Gainey, both of Troy, NC, Sarah Young of High Point, NC; a very special friend, Regina Horne of High Point, NC; 14 grandchildren  one sister-in-law, Minnie R. Gainey of Boston, MA, and a host of nieces, nephews  cousins and friends who will miss him dearly .
