MR. GRADY "Harold" SCARBORO, 86, of MOUNT GILEAD, NC, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Funeral Services will be held 1pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Leah R. Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 S. School St., Mount Gilead, NC 27306, with a Visitation to be held 12:30pm to 1pm prior to the service at the Auditorium and Interment with Masonic Rites will be held in the Parson Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in the Exway Community, 561 Teddar Rd., Mount Gilead, NC. A public viewing will be held 1pm to 7pm Friday, December 26, 2014. Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.
Grady was a longtime member of Parson Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was Chairman of the Deacon Board, and a member of the Starlight Gospel Singers and any other positions where needed. He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #196 of Mount Gilead for 30 years. He was married to Sallie Mae Dumas on May 6, 1950. She preceded him in death, January 13, 2009. Harold was a Gospel Music Promoter and a member of the Gospel Harmonizers of Mount Gilead and very well respected in the community.
Grady was an entrepreneur, having worked 50 years at Scarboro Grocery, Mount Gilead Cafe' and Mount Gilead Citgo, working side by side with his wife, Sallie Mae. He also worked with the Mount Gilead Finishing Plant and DeWitt Trucking Company in Ellerbe, NC., and Harris Funeral Home, Mount Gilead for 20 years. His hobbies were fishing and hunting and well known for his homemade sausage.
He was born February 15, 1928 in Richmond County, NC, to the late Bracy Sr., and Fannie Little Scarboro. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. J.R. Scarborough, Robert Hawkins Scarborough and Bracy June Scarbough; eight sisters, Florence Bowden, Anna Jackson, Pecolia Jackson, Bertha McBride, Jessie Mae McBride, Gertrude Baldwin, Katie Ewing and Mabel Hinson. He will be sorely missed.
Grady leaves to cherish fond memories to his two loving sons, Lee Scarboro (Vera) of Wendell, NC and Billy Scarboro, Sr., of the home; five grandchildren; Gene Scarboro(Darlene), Tannis Scarboro, Reverend Niki Scarboro-Spencer (Thomas), Pamela Scarboro Legette and Billy Scarboro, Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
