MR. HENDERSON ROBINSON, 90 of QUEEN CREEK, AZ formerly of Monroe, NC passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Hospice of the Valley - Lund Home in Gilbert, AZ.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 501 P. E. Bazemore Dr., Monroe, NC. Reverend Larry W. Leake, Pastor, Eulogist.
Military Honors and Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC .
A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, December 14, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC whom is serving the Robinson, Funderburk and extended families.
Born Monday, February 13, 1928 in Pageland, SC to Bundy and Vadie Funderburk Robinson. He was the 8th child of 13 children born to this union. Henderson was a graduate of Pageland Colored High School in 1949. After graduation he attended North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, NC. Henderson was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 where he served in the Korean War. He was promoted to Sergeant and earned the title of Combat Construction Specialist. In 1952 he was awarded the Bronze Service Star. He was released from active duty in 1953, after active duty he relocated to New Jersey. He enlisted into the United States Reserve Corps for five years, where he completed his tour of duty on January 6, 1958.
In New Jersey Henderson was employed at General Motors Corporation Division of Chevrolet, Pontiac and Canada Group. While working at GM, he persued his passion for business ownership, starting The Bergen Auto Body Shop located in Newark, NJ. His business was his joy for many years. His love for Jesus led him to membership at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark, NJ where he was ordained as a Deacon, member of the Choir and Usher Board.
In 1988, Henderson retired and relocated to Monroe, NC and continued his working for the Lord at the Friendship and Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Churches where he served as a Deacon and Choir Member. Still desiring for new adventures he went into Co-Ownership at the M&R Auto Body Shop and enrolled in the North Carolina Agriculture College and earned a Certificate as a Master Gardner in 1989. He has earned many Awards and Accolades for his envolvement in the 4-H Youth Development Program and also earned a Certificate of Appreciation from North Carolina A&T State University for Cooperative Extension Service.
In 2010, Henderson relocated to the State of Arizona where he resided with his daughter; Rhonda and Son-in-Law; Glen, gaining a host of new friends and family. He aquired a new name in his new city, "Iron Man". He was loved by all! He enjoyed picking the seasonal citrus and had a great pleasure in sharing his stories with many neighbors, walking and chatting with everyone he came in contact with. He was an active member of Pilgram Rest Baptist Church, where he participated in the Senior Ministry and was a member of the Senior Choir until his health began to decline.
Henderson loved is family, farming, working on cars and dancing. Whether tinkering with cars, tending to the gardens or cutting a rug on the dance floor, He loved the Lord and gave joy to everyone he met. Henderson will be remembered for his great since of humor and story telling that would put a smile on your face. He was a true Gentle "Man".
Henderson leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, three daughters; Shirley Hill, Patricia Jones and Rhonda Miller (Glen), son; Haywood Robinson, a loving sister; Eliza Johnson a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Henderson was preceded in death by his devoted wife; Janie, a son Robert, his parents Vadie and Bundy, brothers; Clevis, Kennis, Walter, Troyt, Travit and Billie, sisters; Lucille, Betty Ruth, Henrietta, Minnie and Estelle.
