Hubert Ellerbe

M R. HUBERT ELLERBE, 84 of ELLERBE , ​ NC ​formerly ​MOUNT GILEAD, NC , passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017,  at  FirstHealth Hospice House, West End, NC.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, October 13, 2017 at Leah Richter Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 S. School St., Mount Gilead, NC, with burial and military honors to follow in the St. Stephens AME Church Cemetery, Mount Gilead, NC.

Public viewing will be Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC  from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm

Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Giíead is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ellerbe was born on Thursday, August 31, 1933 in Richmond County, NC, to the late Elnora Bowden and raised by the late John " Sonny" and Pearlie Leake Ellerbe.  He departed this earthly life on Saturday morning, October 7, 2017.

Mr. Ellerbe was a graduate of Peabody High School, Troy, NC.  He served two years in the United States Navy, where he was honorably discharged.

Mr. Ellerbe had an entreprenurial spirit at a young age.  He spent several years as a long distant truck driver.  He started a pulpwood and logging business.  Hubert also had real estate license and was a Notary Public.  Lastly, he made the decision to start a car dealership, Ellerbe Auto Sales.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Little and a son, James Craft.

He leaves cherished memories to his nine devoted children, Jeffrey Ellerbe of Greensboro, NC, Melissa Martin (John) of Mt. Gilead, NC, Robyn Johnson (Rafer) of San Antonio, TX, George Riley (Sharquanda) of Philadelphia, PA, Andrianne Ellerbe of Greensboro, NC, Mary Walston of Fayetteville, NC, Emma Henry of Wadesboro, NC, Franchesca Ellerbe of Fayetteville, NC and Santorius Ellerbe of Norman, NC; 18 grandchildren, Terry, Kevin, Tyesha, Michelle, Billy, Andrea, Anthony, Cameron, Zachary, Katlyn, Julius, Kena, Avery, Sana'a, Zahra, Zahir, Jafir, Zayd-Musa; a host of great-grandchildren; two aunts, Bernice Bowden of Biscoe, NC and Mary Helen Dumas of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
