Irene Baldwin Calloway

MRS. IRENE B. CALLOWAY, 74 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at her home.  Funeral Service will be 2p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Oliver Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 232 Davis Haywood Road,
Mangrum Community, Mt. Gilead, NC.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Irene was born on March 1, 1941 in Montgomery County, North Carolina, to the late Johnsie Baldwin Monroe and George Marshall and raised by the late Benny Monroe of Candor, NC.

On Friday, March 13, 2015, Irene B. Calloway was called to her heavenly home.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Greenlake Congregational Church of the Pekin Community of Candor, NC.  After marriage, she joined Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Deaconess, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Usher President member of the Truelights Gospel Choir and on the Kitchen Committee.  One thing for sure, She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and had a beautiful smile.

Irene was married to the late Johnny Calloway, Jr., for 53 years, and to this union 12 children were born.  Two infants and two daughters, Mary C. Martin and Janice C. Hill, preceded her in death along with a granddaughter, Katrina C. Calloway and a great-granddaughter, and her brother, Robert "Boy" Monroe.  She retired from McRae Shoe Industries in Wadeville, NC and Norwood Yarns in Norwood.  Her hobbies were crossword puzzles, fishing, word search, tending to her flowers snd gardens and working to provide for her family.

Those left to cherish and to honor her memories are her children; Robert Calloway (Ruthie) of Asheboro, NC, Dorena Dawkins (Winford) of Hamlet, NC, Tinna Patterson (Timothy), Clementine Bradley (Bobby), and Andrea Calloway, all of Mt. Gilead, NC, Reverend Jesse Calloway (Sherry) of Troy, NC, Lee Herbert Calloway (Kim) and Windell Calloway(Angela) of the home; one sister, Minister Carrie Cole (Rev. Ivy) of Eagle Springs, NC; 30 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, special dear friend, Roger Ewing of Mt. Gilead, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
