MR. JAMES EDWARD "Bro" BYRD, SR. 90 of MONROE, NC passed away Friday, July 31, 2020 at his home.
Graveside Services and Military Honors will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Salisbury National Cemetery. 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury NC. (Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic eveyone attending the Service are required to wear a Mask or Facial Covering).
There will be no public viewing.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Legion Post #212, PO Box 1151, Monroe, NC 28111.

Mr. James Edward Byrd, Sr. , affectionately known as "Bro. Byrd" , peacefully passed at his home at the age of 90, He was born on Friday, August 9, 1929, in Union County, North Carolina He was preceded in death by his friend and companion, Ella Roland and sisters, Alice Byrd Wilks and Frances Byrd Nixon.
He attended Winchester Avenue School and Carver College. He was a member of Shepherds Chapel and a dedicated lifetime member of the American Legion Post #212, where he served as Chaplain.
"Bro. Byrd " loved to fish and was an avid golfer winning numerous trophies and awards. He will be remembered for his outspoken personality and smooth moves on the dance floor, funny stories and being dressed to impress at all times.
He leaves to cherish loving memories ro his son, James "Jimmy" Byrd, Jr., and a daughter, Wandra Gail Byrd Brown (Rickey); a nephew, Otis Wilks; a niece, Mattie Love; former wife and friend, Maggie Clyburn Byrd; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and special friends.
