James attended Union County Public Schools and graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1983.  With support and assistance from Mr. Edward Belton, Sr., James attended Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, SC.

James affectionately known by many as "Craig" was a caring, loving and kind person with a soft spoken  and gentle spirit.  He would hold a conversation with everyone he met.  He loved spending time with his sister Rhonda and caring for his lawn, especially the plants and flowers in his front yard,  James enjoyed the times when his family would travel to visit.  James prepared   huge and delicious meals.  Styling and profiling was his thing.  He liked to dress up on Sundays to attend church.  He would find the right barber for haircuts, go to the fashionable stores for clothes and tennis shoes.  James was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Carolina Panthers.
