MR. JAMES MELVIN CRAIG, 56 of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at his home.
Private Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Hillcrest Cemetery, 1001 Adams St.., Monroe, NC.
( Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a mask or facial covering. Also please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)
A public viewing will be held 2:00 p m to 6:00 pm Monday, May 3, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC.
James Melvin Graig, one of two children of Betty Lou Craig, was born on March 23, 1965.
He had an undeniable bond with his mother and brought much happiness and joy to hid grandparents, James (Mr. Jimmy) and Mildren Craig, both of whom shared with him their love, guidance and wisdom.
James attended Union County Public Schools and graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1983. With support and assistance from Mr. Edward Belton, Sr., James attended Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, SC.
James was employed in various jobs including machine operator, construction assistant and lawn care worker. Whatever the job, James was a devoted worker and completed each task with perfection. He also had a passion for detailing cars, gardening vegetables and flowers, cooking and sitting on the front porch talking with family and friends.
James accepted Christ into his life and loved to praise and worship the Lord.. In his early years, he attended First Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, NC, with his family. Later in life, he joined Greater Deliverance Christian Fellowship in Wingate, NC.
James affectionately known by many as "Craig" was a caring, loving and kind person with a soft spoken and gentle spirit. He would hold a conversation with everyone he met. He loved spending time with his sister Rhonda and caring for his lawn, especially the plants and flowers in his front yard, James enjoyed the times when his family would travel to visit. James prepared huge and delicious meals. Styling and profiling was his thing. He liked to dress up on Sundays to attend church. He would find the right barber for haircuts, go to the fashionable stores for clothes and tennis shoes. James was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Carolina Panthers.
James was predeceased by his mother, Betty Lou Craig, and his grandparents, James and Mildred Craig.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to this sister, Rhonda Ann Craig, Monroe, NC; uncle, Amziah W. Craig (Florence), Boston, MA; aunts, Thelma J. Brown (Larry) Petersburg, VA and Linda C. Simms, Annapolis, MD; devoted cousins, Mary Catherine Craig, Charlotte, NC, Bonnie Ray Crowder and Church travel companion, Victor Cureton, Pageland, SC and a host of relatives and friends.
