MR. JAMES EDWARD DUMAS, 96 of MT. GILEAD, NC (Wadeville Community) passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Biscoe, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Friday, May 10, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home Chapel, 2529 NC Hwy. 109 South, MT. Gilead, NC, A private Interment will be held in the Roper Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery in MT. Gilead, NC.
A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC.
James Edward Dumas, the husband of the late Welsa Mae Floyd, passed away, Tuesday, April 30, 2019, in the Autumn Care Facility of Biscoe, NC. Born on April 25, 1923, he was the youngest child of the late Lilly Dumas and Walter Stanback.
After his mother's passing in 1926, he was raised by his aunt, Carrie Horne and her husband John, along with their 11 children. He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 19, and after serving a tour of duty in Italy during World War, Ed returned home to Montgomery County. He would later meet and marry Welsa Mae Floyd of Lumberton, NC and from this union, four children were born.
Ed was employed by L.G. DeWitt Trucking before joining Alcoa Badin Works, where he worked for over 25 years until his retirement. Enjoying days of leisure to the fullest and always on the go, Ed delighted in watching his Atlanta Braves, tending to his yard and taking trips along the east coast and California. An active member of Roper Grove AME Zion Church in Wadeville, NC, Ed was a staple in the Montgomery County Community and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife Welsa Mae, eldest sister, Addie Bea Haywood, brothers, Oscar, Raeford, Monroe, Otha and J. Hugh Dumas and a son Ronald Dumas and a daughter, Sharline McRae.
Ed leaves to mourn his devoted children; Carolyn Dumas of Quincy, MA, Reginald Dumas (Agnes) of Boston, MA, Stephanie Dumas of Mt. Gilead, NC, Diane Hammond of Silver Spring, MD, Glenn Blake (Teresa) of Philadelphia, PA, Regina McRae of Mt. Gilead; grandchildren, Nicole Dumas-Little (Corey) of Boston, MA, Garrett Dumas (Chasity) of Albemarle, NC, Erica Dumas of Quincy, MA, Benjamin Dumas od Panama City. FL., Glends Wright (David) of Tampa, FL., John Chambers of Philadelphia, PA, Marquitta Hinson, JaQuil Hinson, Shakira, Jamuel, Jawana and Shakei McRae; great-grands, Shawn Dumas, Danasia Dumas, Malaysia, Jaiaden, D'Emarie and Destin Wright and Quincy Chambers;sister, Peggy Stanback-Jones; brother, Samuel Watkins;sister-in-law, Ms. Willie Floyd of Winston-Salem, NC, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
