James Marion (Bay Bay) Massey, Sr.

MR. JAMES MARION "Bay Bay" MASSEY, SR, 68 of MONROE, NC passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at CHS-Pineville in Pineville, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 2pm Thursday, January 14, 2015 at Christ Bible Discipleship worship Center, 1019 Unarco Rd., Marshville, NC 28103.  Visitation of family and friends will be held 1pm to 2pm at the Church prior to the service.  Interment with Military Honors will be held 10:00 am Friday, January 15, 2016 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.  A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 6pm Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

He was Born in Union County, North Carolina, Sunday, January 5, 1947 a son of the late  James Clyde and Sarah "Sadie" Livingston Massey.

At an early age "Bay Bay" joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC  under the leadership of Reverend J.B. Crowder.  He graduated from Winchester High School in 1965 and that same year he enlisted in the US Army after serving his country for three years he was honorably discharged.  After his service in the US Army he resided in  Washington, DC where he became employed by D.C. General Hospital  and the Metropolitan Police Department, in NW Washington, DC. Later in his life "Bay Bay relocated to Charlotte, NC where he attended Central Piedmont Community College and became employed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departmaent.  He retired in 2000 after several years of service.

He married the former Miss Betty Jean Harris and from their union three children were born.  He was known for his athleticism and musical abilities, his spirit of socialism and his outgoing personality caused him to be loved by many.  He also enjoyed traveling, drawing, playing chess and taking pictures.

Preceding him in death was his parents; his sisters; Marjorie "Margie" Massey Huntley and Lottie Deloris "Lois" Massey and a brother Max L. Massey.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife, Betty Jean Harris Massey of Charlotte, NC; six children Michaela Luticiano of Augsburg, Germany, Kevin Massey of Temple Hill, MD,  Darry Johnson of Charlotte, NC, James Marion Massey, Jr of Elizabeth City, NC,  Damon Massey and Alisha Massey both of Charlotte, NC, one sister; Sheryl "Sherrie" Massey of the home, five grandchildren, one brother-in-law; Tennyson S. Harris, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, one sister-in-law; Paulette Garrett-Morris of Oakland, CA, one uncle; Augustus Livingston of Landis, NC, three aunts; Christine Davis of New York, NY, Betty Jane Ruffin and Betty Jean Livingston both of Haymarket, VA and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends; Jimmy Lee Williams, Willie "Honeybabe" Funderburk, Charlie Collins and Vickie Foster.
