James Junior Rorie

March 12, 1926 — November 30, 2017

​MR. JAMES JUNIOR RORIE, 91 of MONROE, NC ​passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home.  Funeral Servcies will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, 9510 Olive Branch Rd., Marshville, NC. Military Honors and Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm  Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Mr. Rorie was born to the late James Jimmy Rorie and Minnie Polk Rorie, on Friday, March 12, 1926, in Union County, North Carolina.

He was employed at Yale Norton, where he retired after 23 years.  He served his country in the United States Navy, receiving and honorable discharge.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #281 of Deep Creek.

Deacon Rorie confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church until his demise.  He served faithfully on the Deacon Board for 65 plus years.  He also served as President of the Hymn Choir, member of the Gospel Choir, Pastor's Aide, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Kitchen Committee Chairman, Church Custodian and in any other ministries at OBMBC when needed.  A "true servant" of God.  He was not a man of many words, however, he spoke with volume.

Deacon Junior was united in holy matrimony to Minnie Leo Broadway Rorie for 58 years, until her passing, April 30, 2002.  Together, they raised twelve children.  Those preceding him in death was his wife Minnie, four children, Rachel Lucille Rorie, Eddie Vance Rorie, Matthew Bruce Rorie and Grady Wallace Rorie; seven siblings, Fannie Thomas, Pauline Greene, Pastor Bernice Davis, Frances Staton, Lee Rorie, George Rorie and Clarence Rorie.

Those left to cherish his memories are his five sons, June Calvin Rorie (Barbara), Dennis James Rorie (Patricia), all of Monroe, NC, Terry Lee Rorie of Pineville, NC, Johnny Louis Rorie(Shiretha) of Monroe, NC and Checo James Rorie (Tiarra) of Greensboro, NC; four daughters, Katie Thompson (Jerome) of the home, Ethel Lee Rorie of Indian Trail, NC, Dianna Lynn Rorie and Amy Lois Rorie Wilson (Marty) all of Monroe, NC; in-laws, Earl Broadway(Evelyn) and Clayton Junior Broadway (Shirley), all of Locust, NC and Genova Griffin (Paul) of Oakboro,NC; daughters-in-law, Marlene Rorie of Monroe, NC and Rose Rorie of Burnsville,  NC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
