MR. JAMES WOODROW WHITE, 95 of WAXHAW, NC passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Atrium Health / Union - West in Matthews, NC. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Monroe, NC. Interment will follow in the Suncrest Cemetery in Monroe, NC.
(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a mask or facial covering. Please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home).
A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday, January 30, 2023 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC which is serving the White, Hailey and extended families.
James Woodrow White, "Grandpa", a long-time Waxhaw, North Carolina resident, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, with his daughter Mary by his side. James was born on Monday, July 4, 1927, in Marshville, North Carolina, to the late Edmond White and Katie Hailey White.
James attended school in Union County, North Carolina. As a young man, he worked at the family Saw Mill business owned by his father, Edmond. Later, James enlisted in the United States Navy. Once his committment to the Navy was completed, James was employed by Bethlehem Steel Shipyard in Brooklyn, New York, where his children were born. Later, he would work for a private Sanitation Company that had him traveling from New York to Delaware.
James' passion included boxing, watching politics on the daily news, his love of family and taking pictures. He also enjoyed watching the Mets, Nets, Dodgers and Yankees. James enjoyed teaching his grandchildren his fancy footwork and quick jab techniques. He was a great shot with the basketball and could throw a mean pitch. He also loved sitting in the sun feeding squirrels and birds.
James was loved deeply by his family and friends. He will be forever remembered for his warm smile that drew people to hm and his famous, "I love you more" during the good-byes.
His son, Calvin White, wife Corrine Alsbrooks and companion Barbara Seegler, predeceased him.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann White Caule;Blount of Waxhaw, NC and son, Mark Seegler of Beacon, New York; son-in-law, Walter Caudle.
James is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous cousins and many dear friends.
