MRS. JEANETTE BARNES SHERROD, 87 of MONROE, NC passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Novant Health / Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 302 Windsor St.,Monroe, NC. Mrs. Sherrod remains will lie in repose begining at 10:00 am with Visitation 10:30 to 11:00 am at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children; Robert Sherrod, Jr., Janet Sherrod Watson, Iris Benita Sherrod Sanders and Bradley Jay Sherrod, two sisters, six grandchildren, extended family and friends. she will be greatly missed.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be to the Robert G. Sherrod, Sr. Scholarship Fund of Friendship Missionary Church of the Rosa L. Poston and Jeanette B. Sherrod Scholarship Fund of Union County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
History of Jeanette Sherrod as follows; Born Saturday, August 30, 1930 in Wilson County, NC, to the late Reverend Elijah Barnes, Sr., and Lenora Carter Barnes.
Graduate of North Carolina Central University, 1954 Bachelors Degree. Master's Degree fr om NC State University 1982. High School Educator, Teaching Certificate
Married Robert G. Sherrod in August 1958 and to this union four children
1960 joined Richmond County Agricultural Extension Service, working in Home Economics, 4H, Community Resource; later Union County Agricultural Extension Service
1986 Jeanette was a plantiff in the Bazemore v. Friday a case that was heard before the United States Supreme Court. The Court ruled in her favor. The case set precedent for employment and civil rightsd regulation across the nation
Honored with National Extension Home Economics Distinguished Service Award, Extension Homemakers Outstanding Service Award. Retired after 29 years on October 30, 1990 from North Carolina's Agricultural Extension Service.

Sherrod(Anjenette Monique) of Winston-Salem, NC; God sons, Willie Earl Wilson of Raleigh, NC and Darcy Barnes (Teri) of Elizabethtown, KY and their children, Teey'a, Marcus (Sherry); six grandchildren; Addison L. Sanders, Hazel M. Bridges-Sherrod, Dimitri S. Watson, Juwan Watson, Elijah Sherrod and Angelena M. Sherrod; two sytoisters, Mary S.L. Whitfield of Micro, NC ane Sarah Jean Chappell of Clayton, NC; special nephew, Corey Heath of Monroe, NC' dear friend Benjamin Winchester of Houston, TX, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
