MRS. JIMMIE LOU COVINGTON, 77 of WAXHAW, NC passed away Monday, May 18, 2020.

Funeral Service and Interment will be Private.

There will be no Public Viewing.  Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jimmie Lou Houston Covington, 77, exchanged time for eternity on Monday, May 18, 2020, peacefully at her home in Monroe, North Carolina.

Jimmie "Jin" Lou Houston Covington was born in Weddington, North Carolina on Friday, August 4, 1942, the child of Elvrin Houston and Elizabeth Henningan.

She attended schools in Union and Forsyth County.  Jimmie then continued her education at Winston-Salem State University.

Fulfilling her calling as a teacher, she taught at Shiloh Elementary School and then later continued at Western Union.  A professional educator, who cared about her children and families, she was at Western Union for 20 years before she retired as a fourth and fifth grade combination teacher.  At an early age, she joined Redding Springs AME Zion Church and later joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church.  Jimmie loved her husband, children, grandchildren and friends.  Jimmie loved children, talking, teaching, cooking, eating and watching her tv shows.

Jimmie Lou Houston Covington was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, Tom and Cora Cunningham Houston; her loving husband, Andrew Curtis Covington of Waxhaw, NC; a son, Andrien "Scat" Cory Covington and step-daughter, Wendy Sabrina McLendon Russell of Monroe, NC.

Jimmie is survived by her sons, Andrew Curtis Covington, Jr., (April) of Philadelphia, PA  and Andre' Coy Covington of Waxhaw, NC; three step-daughters, Shirley Stewart of Monroe, NC, Brenda Stewart Bumbray (Kevin) of Fort Washington, MD and Shona Rorie Smith of Monroe, NC; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; an uncle of New York, an aunt of Waxhaw, NC, Surluta B. Anthony of Monroe, NC; three special friends, Yolanda Medlin Selina Campbell of Monroe, NC, Kim  French and  Lois Moore, both of Charlotte, NC and a host of family, friends and collegues that she cherished so much.
