Joe Anthony Grasty

MR. JOE  ANTHONY  GRASTY, 74, of MOUNT GILEAD, NC (Wadeville Community) died Friday, February 13, 2015, at Frist Health / Montgomery Memorial Hospital,  Troy, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 1pm Friday, February 20, 2015, at Wadeville AME Zion Church, 668 Bruton-Carpenter Rd., Mount Gilead, NC 27306.  Family visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Bruton Cemetery in the Wadeville Community, Mount Gilead, NC.  A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC in charge.

Mr. Joe Anthony Grasty, a son of Mrs. Atria Stout Martin and the late Wade Martin and the late Donald Grasty, was born on March 2, 1940 in Wadeville, Montgomery County, North Carolina.  He departed this earthly life on Friday, February 13, 2015, in the Firsthealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy, North Carolina.

Joe was a lifelong member of Wadeville A.M.E. Zion Church, where he started attending with his grandmother at an early age.

He was a graduate of Peabody High School, Troy, NC and attended the Hampton Institute in Virginia.

His work life spanned several different types of work before he retired from McRae Shoe Company in Wadeville, NC.  Joe was an avid sports fan and liked attending all team sports.  He never missed an A&T Homecoming as long as he was able to drive himself.

Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are his mother, Mrs. Atria Stout Martin of Biscoe, NC; four sisters; Grace Myatt (Richard) of Matapan, Mass., Emma Hill (Harvey) of Wadeville, NC, Patsy Harrell of Milton, Mass., and Norma Nwoko of Washington, DC; two brorhers, Jerry Martin of Manchester, New Hampshire and Reid Martin of Wadeville, NC; one aunt, Mrs. Vaughn Cook, of Wadeville, NC; a special friend, Jessie Cagle of Biscoe, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
