John L. Green

Mr. John L. Green, 87 of Mount Gilead, NC, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Forest Oaks Nursing Facility, Albemarle, NC.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Mount  Zion A.M.E. Zion Church,6748 NC HWY 73 West, Pee Dee Community, Mount Gilead, NC 27306 of which he was a member, Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

He was a Montgomery County native, retired from C&A Industries and worked with Byrd Logging. Born Friday, March 26, 1926 to the late Claude Green and Ziller Rush McRae.  He was educated in the Montgomery County School System.  At Mount Zion, he served as a Trustee, on the Steward Board and a member of the Choir and anywhere needed.  He was a member of the Paramount Masonic Lodge #36 of Ex-way, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Lewis Green and David Green, and his brothers, Handy Green and Leroy Green, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Green of the home; his children; Everett Green(Rita) of Albemarle, NC; Claude Green (Pamela), Scott Green (Dinah), all of Mount Gilead, NC, Franklin Green of Albemarle, NC, Bruno Green, Calvin Green, Dan Green (Frances) and Rose Mary Green, all of Mount Gilead, NC; also Willie Green of Charlotte, NC, Gregory Little(Gwen)  of Albemarle, NC, Garry Little (Gwendolyn) of Mount Gilead, NC, Donald Little of Asheville, NC, Angela Phillips (Bernell) of Albemarle, NC, Mona Dean(Leon) of Chattanooga, TN, Amy Brown of Albemarle, NC and Zilla Little; two sisters-in-law, Etherine Green and Ruth Young; 41 grandchildren, a host of great-grands, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be held 11am to 7pm Friday, January 24, 2014 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.
