John Walter Ivey

JOHN WALTER IVEY, 63 of MONROE, NC, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at CHS Union in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 5909 Wolfpond Rd., Monroe, NC, with the Reverend R. M. Parker, Pastor, Eulogist.

Military Honors and Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

​John Walter was born on Monday, January 26, 1953, in Union County, North Carolina, to the late Mr. Smith Ivey and Mrs. Maggie Stacks Ivey.  He exchanged this life for immortality on Saturday, August 6, 2016, in the Carolinas Healthcare System-Union, in Monroe, NC.

John was a graduate of Sun Valley High School in Indian Trail, North Carolina.  After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corp.  He was employed with Acme Name Plate Company in Monroe, NC, until his retirement.  He attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC.  He was a fun loving individual who loved life and family.  He was always seen with a smile on his face, willing to help any and everybody.  He loved the Lord and was a pillar of his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents and a brother, Rufus Ivey.
Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are his devoted wife of 38 years, Shirley Duncan Ivey, of the home; three sons, Skyles Ivey of Charlotte, NC, Johnny Ivey of Indian Trail, NC and Mitchell Duncan Ivey, of Monroe, NC; one daughter, Michelle Duncan Ivey of Wingate, NC; two sisters, Kaye Moser (Leroy) and Laney Ivey, both of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers,George Stacks of Monroe, NC and Angelo Ivey(Beverly) of Rock Hill, SC; 7 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hood and Juanita Thomas (Jeffrey), all of Wingate, NC, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
