John Joseph Nixon, Jr.

MR. JOHN JOSEPH NIXON, JR., 64 of MONROE, NC passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Atrium Health / Union in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, March 13, 2020 at New Living Word Discipleship, 7513 Brooms Old Mill Rd., Waxhaw, NC. Mr. Nixon remiains will lie in repose 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, 6308 Providence Rd., S., Waxhaw, NC.  Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC is serving the Nixon, Ellerbe and extended families.

John Joseph Nixon, Jr., was born on Saturday, January 7, 1956, in Anson County, North Carolina, to the late Rev. John Joseph Nixon, Sr. and Rev. Esther Mae Ellerbe Nixon.  He departed this earthly life on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Atrium Health-Union, Monroe, North Carolina.

He attended Western Union School and graduated from Parkwood High School.  He attended Friendship College in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  He was employed by Minieral Springs Fertilizer and Herring Brothers Ice in Charlotte, NC.  He loved music, painting, fishing and basketball.  He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor.

He joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church in Waxhaw, NC, at an early age and in later years, New Living Word Discipleship and Worship Center in Waxhaw, NC.

Those preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters, Rev. Cassis Mae Morrison and Mrs. Clara Sowell.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Joshua Nixon and Isaiah Nixon, both of Charlotte, NC; five sisters, Rev. Dorothy Wallace (Arthur Jr.,) Margie Sutton (Marion) and Mary Massey, all of Waxhaw, NC; Gertrude Alsbrooks of Monroe, NC and Esther L. Nixon of Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Rev. James Nixon (Bonita)  of Mineral Springs, NC; seven aunts, Isabell Medley, Ever Jean Ellerbe, Betty Jean Ellerbe, all of Brooklyn, NY,  Florence Cagle of Biscoe, NC, Pansie D. Ellerbe of Mt. Gilead, NC, Katherine Nixon of Charlotte, NC and Doris Ellerbe of Fuquay-Varina, NC; two uncles, Luke Ellerbe of Killeen, TX and Freddie James of Raleigh, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
