Julia Leake

MS. JULIA LEAKE, 76 of MT. GILEAD, NC , passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Atrium Health-Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at St. Stephen AME Church, 1742 McKay Hill Road, MT. Gilead, NC,  Interment follow in the church cemetery.  A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to  7:00 pm Monday, January 27, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC, which is assisting the Leake and extended families.

Julia, a daughter of the late Torrence Leake, Sr., and Mattie lilly Leake, was born on Friday, August 20, 1943, in Richmond County, North Carolina.  She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Atrium Health North East, Concord, North Carolina.

She was a graduate of Peabody High School and after graduating, she began working in the textile industry.

At an early age,, she accepted Jesus Christ even though she didn't have a membership at a church.  She loved God and had a true relationship wit God.  A favorite quote she had was without God, you have nothing because He was everything.

Ms. Julia was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.  She was a home for the homeless, food for the hungry and clothes for the naked.  If there was any need for the needy.  She tried with all her heart to fulfill it,  Ms. Julia put all of her love and heart into her meals especially her cornbread.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles Leake, Torrence Jimmy Leake, Jr., and Howard Leake; seven sisters, Magalene Leake, Nannie Leake, Elnora Harris, Doris Mangrum, Delphine Mangrum, Margie Leake and Alline McRae.

Ms. Julia leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Tony Leake of the home; three granddaughters, Tannika Leake and Daniella Leake both of Mt. Gilead, NC and Elise Leake of Albemarle, NC; one grandson, Jarvis Dumas, Jr.,of Mt. Gilead, NC; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Leake of Mt. Gilead, NC; 14 nieces, including devoted niece, Angela Mangrum of Mt. Gilead, NC and Eunice Parker and Mattie Thomas of Mt. Gilead, NC; a devoted neighbor Jeffery Little of Mt. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews.
