Lena Belle (Haywood) Crews

MRS. LENA BELLE HAYWOOD CREWS, 96 of GREENSBORO, NC, formerly of MT. GILEAD, NC , passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020  at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

A Private Graveside Service will be held 11:00 am Friday, May 22, 2020 at McAuley Memorial Gardens, 1177 Thomasville Church Road, MT. Gilead, NC. (Due to COVID 19) ONLY IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE SERVICE.

A Public Viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on  Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of MT. Gilead, NC.

She was a faithful member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, NC. While at Trinity, she served as a Deaconess and a member of the Sunday School Class. She traveled a lot with many friends, she and five of them became known as "The Golden Girls".

One of the ways she shared the most was through cooking.  She was a fabulous cook and was very passionate about her cooking.  She was always inviting people to her home to dine on her green beans, fresh creamed corn, cornbread, greens, fried chicken, sweet potato pies, chitterlings and of course, ox tails!  Her generous and kind heart drew many people to her home.  Mrs. Crews enjoyed worshiping and serving the Lord, watching various preachers on television and working crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Haywood and Willia Mae Chambers Haywood Dumas; stepfather, Vander Dumas; four sisters, Merline Lilly, Marie Lilly, Geneva Hinson and  Louise Hinson; a brother, Curtis Dumas.

She is survived by  sisters, Juanita Baldwin of Candor, NC and Sarah Leake of MT. Gilead, NC and a brother, Robert Dumas, Sr. (Katie) of MT. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends.
