Leon Crawford Pemberton, Sr.

December 27, 1948 — February 25, 2013

Mr. Leon Crawford. Pemberton, Sr. 64,  of Mount Gilead, NC, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, March 2, 2013,  at Leah R. Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 School St., Mount Gilead, NC, 27306.  Interment will follow in the Chestnut AME Zion Church Cemetery, 7093 Grassy Island Rd., Mount Gilead, NC. Public viewing will be held 11am to 7pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at  Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Leon was born December 27, 1948, in Montgomery County, NC, to the late John Henry and Ollie Mae Leak Pemberton.  He was a 1967 graduate of Peabody High School, and Montgomery Community College, Troy, with a degree in Masonry.  He was employed with McRae Footwear until his health failed.  He had a love of building picnic tables and helping others. He was a member of Chestnut A.M.E. Zion Church and was a faithful member of his church.  He will be sorely missed.

Two brothers, Ronald Pemberton and Thomas Pemberton, preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are his devoted wife of 41 years, Rosemary McRae Pemberton, of the home; three children; Cassandra Little (Devon), Lori Little (Joseph) and Leon C. Pemberton, Jr.(Cathryn), all of Mt. Gilead, NC; 7 grandchildren; Jasmine Harris, Sheniqua Harris, Jameya Little, Devon Little, Jr., Jaquires Pemberton, JaMari Pemberton and TyQuires Little; 6 sisters; Edna Allsbrook (Bobby), Mary Helen Alsobrook, Lorraine Stancil (Ollie) and Nettie Ruth Pemberton, all of Mt. Gilead, NC, Jessie Marie Morrison (Charles) of Jackson Springs, NC and Francis Lilly of Greensboro, NC; 6 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law; special nephew/brother, James Marion  "Bee" Pemberton and two special nieces, Shannon Pemberton and Shawanda Stancil; special cousin, Nettie Little; special friend, Robert Greene; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.  Sleep on Leon, take your rest. We loved you, but God loved you best.
