Linwood Hinson, Sr.

MR. LINWOOD HINSON, SR, 88 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home.  Funeral Services will be held 11:30 am Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church, 2829 NC HWY 109 S., Mount Gilead, NC 27306. Visitation will be held 10:30am to 11:30 am prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow in McAuley Memorial Gardens in Mount Gilead, NC.  A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Monday, June 22, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Linwood was born on Friday, May 27, 1927, in Richmond County, NC., to the late Hunter and Carrie Mae McBride Hinson.

In 1950, Linwood married Geneva Haywood, and to this union, three children were born, Linwood, "Bob" Jr., Vickie and Phil.

Linwood was employed with Dewitt Trucking Company in Ellerbe, NC for several years.  He was later employed with Alcoa Badin Works, Badin, where he worked as an Anode Assembly Laborer in the Anode Assembly Dept.  He had accumulated 13 years of service with the company and retired.  His hobbies were driving trucks and tinkering with cars.

He was a lifelong member of Parson Grove Baptist Church, Exway community.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings, and 2 grandchildren, Tory Hinson and Tyra Legrande.

He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories to his wife of 65 years, Geneva Haywood Hinson of Pleasant Garden, NC; sons, Linwood Hinson, Jr., (Cynthia) of Archdale, NC and Phil Hinson (Juanita) of Kernersville, NC; daughters, Vickie Whatley (Curtis) of Pleasant Garden, NC and Vivian Washington (Jonathan) of High Point, NC; one sister, Gladys Scarboro of Chester, PA; one brother, Bobby Baldwin of Albemarle, NC; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Dumas(Katie); four sisters-in-law, Louise Hinson, Lena Crews, Juanita Baldwin and Sarah Leake; god daughter, Barbara Scarboro; special friend and driver, June Morrison, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
