MR. LONNIE DUMAS, 79 of MOUNT GILEAD, NC passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Mountain Grove/Ingram Chapel AME Zion Churches, 3408 NC HWY 73 West, Mount Gilead, NC 27306, with the Reverend Everette Dumas, nephew, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Ingram Chapel Church Cemetery. A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC. Family visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Lonnie Dumas was born on Monday, September 21, 1936, to the the late Alonzo and Flora Haywood Dumas, in Montgomery County, North Carolina. Lonnie, or "Tiger", as he was fondly called by family and friends, grew up in Mt. Gilead, and was a graduate of Peabody High School. After high school, he relocated to New Haven Connecticut, where he was a skilled welder. Lonnie was employed by Pratt & Whitney and Armstrong Rubber Company, before becoming a pubic servant of the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation where he retired. The laughter, strength, honesty and love he brought to those closest to him will remain in our hearts forever.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; sisters, Rachel Dumas, Annette Dumas, Ruby Dumas, Sarah Lee Dumas and a brother, William "Crow" Dumas, all of Mt. Gilead, NC.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory to his loving children; Ronald Craig Dumas (Doris) of New Haven, Conn., and Kimberly Dumas of Powder Springs, GA: three sisters, Mary Ann Dumas-Ingram and Roenia Dumas-Smith, both of New Haven, Conn., and Susie Dumas-Watkins of Mt. Gilead, NC; one brother, Wilbert Dumas of Mt. Gilead, NC; three grandchildren; Chanelle Diane Dumas, of Washington, DC, Ronald Craig Dumas II, of New Haven, Conn., and Corey Alexander Dumas-Mullings, of Powder Springs, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and dear friends
