MS. MARGELL CHAMBERS  TANNER CARTER, 86 of WINGATE, NC died Monday, May 26, 2014 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 6pm Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Monroe, NC with a Visitation 5pm to 6pm prior to the service.  A public viewing will be held 11am to 5pm Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Funeral Home prior to Visitation.  Homegoing Celebration will be held 9am Saturday, May 31, 2014 at G. Choice Funeral Chapel, 2530 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19132. Interment will be in  Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA.

A native of Anson County, North Carolina, born  Monday, January 30, 1928 a daughter of the late Samuel Chambers and Bertha Jane Huntley Chambers.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Johnny Tanner and Rev. Jesse Carter, and two  sons  Burnole and Oliver Tanner.

She was an Evangelist and a Master Baker at Philadelphia General Hospital until she retired.

She is survived by one sister; Mary Eilizabeth Houston of Wingate, NC; daughter-in-law, Gloria Jean Tanner of Philadelphia, PA; 4 grandchildren,  Lisa Greene (Michael)  and Anthony Perez (Michelle) all of Philadelphia, PA, Elton Tanner (Keisha) and Leon Tanner (Kim), all of Charlotte, NC; 7 great-grandchildren; Michael and Christian Greene, Marcus and Mia Perez, Beron, Niesha and Jaylan Tanner;  caregiver and niece, Juanita Chambers;  and a young man she loved as a son, Gary Williams of New Castle, Delaware; and a host of nieces and nephews. Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe is in charge.
