Marie (Dumas) Lilly

MRS.  MARIE DUMAS LILLY, 80 of DURHAM, NC formerly of MOUNT GILEAD, NC , passed away, Monday, June 9, 2014, at Pettigrew Rehab Center, Durham, North Carolina.  Funeral Services will be held 12 noon Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church, 2829 NC HWY 109 S., Mount Gilead, NC 27306.  Family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Ingram Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery in Mount Gilead, NC.  A public viewing will be held  12 noon to 7pm Friday, June 13, 2014 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, North Carolina.

On Monday, June 9, 2014, the earthly life of Marie Dumas Lilly, came to a close at Pettigrew Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Durham, North Carolina.  We the family members and close friends, bow in humble submission to God's will.

" Candy" as she was so fondly called by many, was born in Montgomery County, North Carolina on November 20, 1933 to the late Vander and Willa Mae Chambers Dumas.

She received her education in the public schools of Montgomery County.  Marie was a member of the McAuley Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, where she was a faithful member of the gospel choir.  She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cleveland Lilly Sr., one son, Calvin Dumas, sister, Merline Lilly and one brother, Curtis Dumas.

Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are three sons; Cleveland Lilly, Jr., (Teresa) of Denver Colorado, James E. Lilly (Velena) of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina and Leslie K. Lilly (Soncia) of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Maria D. Lilly and Latondra Williams (Gregory), all of Durham, North Carolina; one brother, Robert Dumas (Katie) of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; six sisters; Louise Hinson, Geneva Hinson (Linwood), Juanita Baldwin and Sarah Leake, all of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, Lena Crews of Greensboro, North Carolina and Lillie Ruth Young of Troy, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Lucille Lilly of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
