MRS. MARIE RORIE WILLIAMS, 74 of MONROE, NC passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at her home.
Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Flag Branch Baptist Church, 2619 Old Pageland-Monroe Rd., Monroe, NC 28112. Her remains will in repose 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the church prior to the service. Reverend Dale S. Jordan, Pastor, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.
A public viewing will be held 12:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, March 31, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.
Marie Rorie Williams passed into our Heavenly Father's care on Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was born on January 29, 1943, in Union County,NC, to the late Clarence and Mary Perkins Rorie. Her grandparents were the late Deacon Lester and Glennie Teal Rorie. She was predeceased by two brothers, Rosco Perkins Rorie and Clarence Edward Rorie.
Marie attended the Gulledge Rosenwald Elementary School and East Union High School in Marysville. She later studied at Anson-Stanly Community College, now South Piedmont Community College to complete courses in industrial sewing.
She was the first African American seamstress employee of Allen Overall Company, where she was employed for more than 25 years. She was also an industrial sewer at Metrolina Apparel.
Marie joined Flag Branch Baptist Church at an early age and servedfaithfully. She loved the Lord and it was evident in her actions. She was a member of the finance committee, Usher Board, Hymn and Gospel Choirs and Missionary Department, in addition a devoted Sunday School and BTU member. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, listening and playing the bass guitar.
Those left to cherish her memories are her devoted loving daughter, Maria Rorie Byrd and a son, Nathan Williams, Jr. (Ausomia) 6 grandchildren, Brittany Marie Clyburn, Tatiana, Nyla, Danielle and Kya Williams; grandson, Johnathan N. Clyburn (Genine); a niece she raised, Princess Haskins Hopskins; five sisters, Glennie M Rorie, Ruth Haskins, Carolyn Faulkner, Mary A. Rorie, all of Monroe, NC, and Virginia M. Funderburk of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Vera Huntley of Charlotte, NC; family friends, Heath Jordan, Beatrice Colson, Carolyn Black and Marionette Reaves; and a host of nieces, nieces, cousins and friends.
